Annie Modesitt
Designer and author, Annie Modesitt, is coming to Nautical Yarn this summer. She will be here the weekend of July 18-20, 2008 for two and one-half days of workshops. Annie, better known as the "Knitting Heretic", has her own unique methods of knitting and her designs are beautiful. For more information about Annie, visit her Web site at http://www.anniemodesitt.com/ or read her heart-felt blog at http://www.modeknit.com/. Each workshop will cost $50. Combination Knitting—Friday, 7/18/2008 6:00 PM, for 3 hours Christened “Combination Knitting" by Priscilla Gibson-Roberts (Fall 2000 Interweave Knits magazine), this combination of Western and Eastern style knitting is faster, creates a nicer tension with less "rowing out" and less wrist strain. Established knitters may enjoy this different method, new knitters can mistress this right away! Each student should bring: Light colored worsted weight yarn, needles to work well with yarn. New Directions in Knitting With Color—Saturday, 7/19/2008 10:00 AM, for 3 hours Colorwork is a wonderful thing, and so satisfying for a knitter! Don’t be afraid, be bold and confident as you take up your needles - enjoy the full range of colored yarns that are all around you. In this class we will learn how to “read” a colorwork chart and learn the basics of changing colors in a row while knitting. We will also discuss the differences between fair isle and intarsia, and compare different methods of carrying yarn across the back of the work. Each student should bring: 4 contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn, needles to work well with yarn. Cocoon Circular Sweater (3) - Saturday, 7/19/2008 2:00 PM, for 3 hours Each student will create a swatch based on the Fall Vogue Knitting 2005 cover sweater (designed by the instructor ). In this class students will use their own body measurements to determine the correct size of a cocoon sweater and perfect sleeve placement. The student and will work up a swatch utilizing all techniques used in creating the VK sweater. Each student should bring: 2 balls contrasting yarn, 1 24” long circ, plus dpns (or 2 circ needles), all in a size to work well with your selected yarn, 8 stitch markers, measuring tape, pencil See this sweater at http://www.anniemodesitt.com/patterns/index.html#TwFl188 Love your Lace! - Sunday, 7/20/2008 10:00 AM, for 3 hours Learn the basic theory behind knitting lace, and perfect your lace chart reading skills. Written instructions can have typos, but with a chart what you see is what you get, which is why it’s the best option for knitters who want to “see” what their lace will look like before they take up their needles. In this class we will knit a few simple lace panels, and move onto a more difficult lace pattern for those who feel ready for a challenge. This class could change your entire knitting outlook! Each student should bring: Light colored worsted weight yarn, needles to work well with yarn Universal Mitered Bag / Modular Knitting—Sunday, 7/20/2008 2:00 PM, for 3 hours We’ll cover the basics of Mitered—or Domino—Knitting, learn ways to visualize mitered patterns through charts, and even begin the Universal Mitered Bag, which can be completed at the knitters own pace after the class. View this bag at http://www.anniemodesitt.com/patterns/UnMi187.gif. We hope you are able to attend one or more of Annie's workshops. Call Nautical Yarn at 231-845-9868 to register.
